Exploring SewerAI's project management and more

overview
Pioneer is a groundbreaking AI-driven cloud platform, developed by SewerAI to revolutionize sewer data management. As part of the talented SewerAI team, I owned the product and brand design. In short, I contributed to new features and enhancements, from concept and planning stages through to execution and finally, implementation.

With the goal of enhancing user productivity, we integrated 'projects' – a feature mirroring real-world workflows – into the Pioneer platform. This addition prompted a cascade of modifications to existing features, for which I designed new patterns and artifacts. Implementing project management functionality offered a glimpse into the boundless potential for users to leverage Pioneer as their centralized source for condition-assessment data management.

Clearing the fog — for all the ways Pioneer adapts to varied use cases

Pioneer caters to a diverse user base, spanning from engineers to field operators, each with unique interpretations of productivity, thus presenting a multitude of use cases. Through user interviews and research we gained crucial insights, often with conflicting feedback, challenging our initial ideas and creating a need for a flexible approach to address the diverse needs across all scenarios.

Central to ‘projects’ was the creation of a comprehensive project dashboard, providing users with a bird's-eye view of projects' progress and expectations. Leveraging a new object panel, users could effortlessly create and edit projects, a functionality seamlessly integrated throughout the platform.

01. Responding to user demand for project management capabilities, we introduced a versatile dashboard enabling users to track progress across all data sources and objectives.
02. The new object panel artifact created for 'Projects' was then used to grow the design patterns across the platform.

Taking 'Projects' to the field

As we tested prototypes, the need to integrate project management features into the Pioneer desktop version, primarily used by field operators, became evident. Scaling beyond the initial scope demanded significant backend development efforts to ensure a seamless user experience across both the cloud and desktop applications.

To accommodate varying user permission settings and enable offline functionality, we introduced a streamlined feature allowing users to seamlessly record inspections into projects with a one-time interaction. This approach ensures minimal disruption to the primary task of inspection recording.

03. Recording and syncing inspections from the field to the cloud.
04. Designing the dashboard involved numerous iterations to determine the optimal way to present and interact with diverse data.

Beyond project management

During my time at SewerAI, we consistently received high customer satisfaction ratings and grew user adoption far above typical industry standards, whose users are often slow to adapt to modern workflows.
As the sole product and brand designer, I had the opportunity to shape the brand while contributing to the growth of the product. These are some other highlights:

  • SewerAI brand development
  • Pioneer digital submittals
